Client: Chesterbridge Developments LTD
Lead Architect: Anthony Reddy Associates
Retail Architect: Broadway Maylan
Arup Scope: Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Traffic

Arup Fire were the engineers on the project from conception through to completion. The project included 36,000 sq m of underground car park, an enclosed shopping centre with approximately 50 retail units totalling 28,000 sq m,  3,000 sq m of office space and 135 residential apartments. The project required a number of fire engineered solutions due to the mixed use nature of the scheme. such engineered solutions included:

  • Detailed assessment  and testing of car park ventilation systems to ensure acceptable design.
  • Detailed smoke control assessment of shopping mall to permit natural ventilation
  • The adoption of an fire engineered integrated means of escape approach utilising staircases across a mix of different purposes groups.

Arup Fire provided fire engineering consultancy advice up to planning for this large mixed use scheme. The development required intense use of fire engineered solutions to ensure architectural aspirations could be realised. Challenges includes means of escape assessment for large underground retail and assembly facilities, rationalisation of smoke control and fire fighting facilities for deep underground and high rise areas. Use of engineering tools on External fire spread to ensure fire spread to adjoining buildings does not occur.
