Genetically Modified Micro-organisms Consents

Under the GMO Regulations, the contained use of genetically modified micro-organisms is subject to the consent of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This consent is given at a specific level of containment, appropriate to the established risks to human health and the environment. Four levels of containment are considered, with Class 1 activities considered to have the lowest risk, and Class 4 activities subject to the highest level of containment.

Arup has significant experience of successful applications for consent under the GMO Regulations. We are familiar with the EPA's requirements for applications, and draw from our extensive experience of IPPC licensing and environmental impact assessment to provide our clients with advice and support throughout the consent application process.
