Arup acted as the overall Structural Engineering Consultant for the Luas Red Line C1 project. The Spencer Dock Bridge, based in the Dublin docklands, is the principal structure along the route between the O2 Arena and Connolly Station.
The bridge comprises of a two span post-tensioned deck 40m in length. The deck is unique in terms of its geometrically undulating soffit forming a doubly curved surface. Construction is almost complete on site.
The bridge won the Best Structural Design prize at the Leaf 2009 (Leading European Architects Forum) awards ceremony in Berlin. The awards are given to those who "have made an outstanding contribution to the world of architectural design" and for buildings that set benchmarks.
