The Living Bridge, University of Limerick
Client: University of Limerick
Consulting Engineers: Arup
Architects: WilkinsonEyre Architects
Spanning 350 metres, the Living Bridge is the longest pedestrian bridge in Ireland linking both sides of UL’s campus across the River Shannon.
The Living Bridge consists of a six span cable trussed bridge. The individual spans were constructed off location and then craned into place across the River Shannon. Extra care was implemented in the sensitive integration of the bridge into this Special Area of Conservation.
Arup developed the construction methodology to support the planning application and demonstrate that every effort had been made to minimise the environmental impact during the construction works.
