Dart Underground
Arup Scope: Preliminary design, full EIS and Railway Order, PPP Contract documents preparations, tender process and evaluation contribution, contract award recommendation.
Arup Team: The team is a joint venture between Arup and Halcrow with Arup as lead. Specialist subconsultants include Corderoys, Murray O'Laoire Architects, David Slattery, Margaret Gowen, AWN Consulting among others.
The DART Underground will involve construction and operation of approximately 8.6km of new rail from the CIÉ Inchicore Works to tie into the Northern Mainline south of East Wall Road, north of the Docklands area. The DART Underground consists of approximately 7.6km of twin tunnel between the portals at East Wall and Inchicore. The project will link the Northern line with the Kildare line, with underground stations at Docklands, Pearse Street, St Stephens Green, Christchurch, Heuston and a surface station at Inchicore.
The current construction cost estimate is approximately €2.5Bn. DART Underground will form the central spine of the commuter rail network for Dublin and the surrounding Greater Dublin Area, linking all existing and currently proposed rail modes together into a single integrated and cohesive network.
The scope of services is to take the selected route and develop a preliminary design, full EIS and Railway Order (equivalent to a planning permission). This will require a range of surveys contracts including topographic, site investigation, building surveys, utilities etc. Concurrent to this Arup will also prepare PPP Contract documents, contribute to the tender process and evaluation, and make a recommendation for contract award.
