Trinity College Dublin Crann

Client: Trinity College Dublin
Sports building architect: HJLyons
CRANN Architects: RKD
Laboratory Designers: Wilson Associates
Arup Scope:  Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical & Acoustic Design

Arup was responsible for civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and acoustic design and played a key role in co-ordination with Iarnród Éireann in relation to the adjacent railway viaduct.

The Sports Centre contains a swimming pool, fitness theatre, two sports halls, changing and ancillary spaces. Due to the constraints of the site these elements have, uniquely for Dublin, been stacked vertically leading to some interesting challenges for both structure and services.

The Centre for Adaptive Nanosciences and Nanotechnology (CRANN) is one of the World’s leading centres for cutting-edge nanoscience research. The upper floors contain laboratories and offices. The basement contains an ultra low vibration laboratory. This is unique in Ireland and ranks with only a handful of other labs worldwide, in terms of level of vibration isolation achieved.
