2008 Arup Dublin Office ranks ahead of CIBSE Benchmarks

Arup Dublin Office ranks ahead of CIBSE Benchmarks

Arup Consulting Engineers moved into new offices on Ringsend Road, Dublin in October 2007. One year later, we are pleased to announce that the Energy Performance of the new building is exceeding all expectations and is better than established CIBSE benchmarks.

The Arup Dublin office building was designed to be as efficient as possible, with energy conservation and sensitivity to environmental issues being a particular focus.

Sustainable design features include a double skin façade, natural ventilation, automated lighting control, rainwater harvesting and thermal solar absorption panels. Other features include interstitial blinds, high level vents which allow free cooling at night and exposed concrete soffits which help regulate temperatures.

Gas consumption levels are very economical and better than CIBSE good practice benchmarks. For example our consumption rate of 71.5 kWHr/m²/year illustrates that we are using much less gas than the
published benchmarks for "good practice" naturally ventilated open plan offices. This achievement is even more impressive when you consider that the offices at 50 Ringsend Road are fully serviced by a displacement ventilation system.

Electricity consumption is also very impressive at a level of 145 kWHr/m²/year. This figure has been achieved despite the extensive IT systems and the erxtended opening hours of the building. Water consumption per square metre is also low due to the rainwater harvesting system installed in the building.
